Since earning my OT degree from Utica College of Syracuse University, I have had the pleasure of working as a holistic Occupational Therapist (OT) with many individuals who have faced various challenges including:
Autism
ADHD
Anxiety
Developmental Delays
Over the years I have worked as an OT:
With families and their children with various developmental disabilities in their homes, providing therapy and advocating on their behalf for appropriate medical and educational services
In schools
At an Indian reservation with children 0-5 years of age
As part of interdisciplinary teams with doctors, nurses, psychologists, social workers
As the director and therapist of a clinic I developed, working with Autistic individuals and focusing on improving sensory processing and emotional challenges
In Private Practice
My ongoing continuing education and learning opportunities have included:
Sensory Processing
Therapeutic Listening
Promoting First Relationships
Brazelton's Newborn Behavioral Observations
Interoception
Trauma
Polyvagal Theory
And of course, and most importantly, I learned so much from the many children and teens who came to me for OT and from their parents.
My diverse background in addressing sensory processing challenges and trauma (both minor and major) that children and teens have experienced has brought me to this current focus as an Occupational Therapist------ after successfully using Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) for almost 25 years to decrease and/or eliminate fears, stress and anxiety, and improve self-esteem, EFT is now the primary approach I use in therapy sessions.
